i. Biography
Hooni Kim is a New York City-based chef and restaurateur, born in Seoul, who trained at Daniel and Masa before opening Danji in Manhattan. Danji is described on his official site as his first restaurant, and it was awarded the first Michelin star ever given to a Korean restaurant in the world; Kim later opened Meju in Long Island City, a Korean fermentation-focused restaurant that received Michelin Guide stars in 2023 and 2024. He is also the founder of Yori Chunsa, a nonprofit in Korea that feeds orphans and trains them to become cooks.
