Where They Are Now

At Frankland Estate, Hunter Smith works at the point where inheritance meets repetition. As owner and winemaker, he is part of a family enterprise and a working landscape, where farming and fermentation depend on patience, routine, and follow-through. Great Southern, Australia, is the setting, but the estate’s present shape comes from his hands-on focus on vineyard work and on turning that harvest into wines with identity and intent.

Within the Frankland Estate portfolio, these wines mark the style most closely associated with Hunter Smith’s work: measured, composed, and tied to place. In Their Words “It wasn’t fully cemented until I worked a vintage in Austria and Germany in the year 2000. It was then that I really decided to get involved with our family business.” The year 2000 was the point at which experience abroad clarified a longer intention. A vintage in Austria and Germany provided the setting in which Hunter Smith’s involvement with the family business became deliberate rather than assumed. That choice still sits behind the work at Frankland Estate.
