Jean-Paul Zusslin trained at Kreydenweiss, Zind-Humbrecht, and Barmès-Buecher, three names that carry weight in Alsace, where close observation and respect for place are part of the job description. Those years gave him technique and range, but they also fixed a working method: precise, restrained, and attentive to what the land is actually saying. Since 2000, he has been owner and winemaker of Domaine Valentin Zusslin, the family estate in Orschwihr. The change in title put the work in his own hands while keeping him tied to the vineyards that formed his eye. From that point on, the estate was not just where he worked; it was where judgment, experience, and family history met in practice.

Where They Are Now

Today, Jean-Paul Zusslin is owner and winemaker at Domaine Valentin Zusslin in Orschwihr, Alsace, where the family estate remains the center of the work. The role is one of stewardship as much as production, with each season shaped by the exchange between vineyard and cellar. His approach stays grounded and exacting, favoring as little interference as possible so the land can register clearly.

Signature

Jean-Paul's signature dishes include Riesling Bollenberg Neuberg 2020. The wine sits at the center of his signature expression, carrying the clarity and specificity that define the work. It reads as the product of close listening rather than force, and of long familiarity with the estate’s vineyards and their differences.

In Their Words “I am very happy with what we have been able to achieve since my sister and I joined forces on the family estate in 2000.” The line points to the scale of family collaboration and to the discipline required to build something durable over time. “We try to interpret nature as faithfully as possible.” That sentence gives the method in plain terms: read the vineyard closely, and translate it with honesty, clarity, and care.
