At California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Jeff Cole built the technical base that has supported a career organized around precision and place. That foundation carried into his years at Schramsberg Vineyards (2006–2013) and J. Davies Estate (2006–2013), where the work established a record of consistency and focus across more than one house style. Those years shaped the approach he would carry forward in later roles, with each appointment adding to the same disciplined line of work. At Sullivan Rutherford Estate (since 2013), that background continues to inform the winery’s style. In Rutherford, the emphasis stays on structure and finesse, with the wines handled to read clearly and without excess.

Where They Are Now

Since 2013, Cole has worked as winemaker at Sullivan Rutherford Estate. The role has depended on steady repetition, close observation, and the slow refinement that comes from working the same ground over time. Rutherford Merlot remains central to that practice, and it is the variety most closely tied to his name.

Signature

Jeff's signature wines include 2022 J.O. Sullivan Founder’s Reserve Merlot and 2022 J.O. Sullivan Founder’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. They sit in the register he favors: polished, built with substance, and aimed at depth and longevity rather than immediate show.
