In wine governance, long memory matters. From 1978, Josep Maria Albet i Noya served as Farmer's Union representative on the D.O. Penedès regulating council at D.O. Penedès, a role that placed him inside the mechanics of the appellation and made his voice part of the region’s wider debate about its future. That kind of post calls for patience as much as conviction: the ability to read across vintages, seasons and pressure points without losing sight of what the trade owes the land.

Josep’s approach points to a producer who treats the land as a working responsibility, but also as something shaped by decisions that outlast a single vintage: what is planted, what is protected, what is handed on, and how a property speaks for itself over time. His view is informed by the realities of the market and by a commitment to more responsible winegrowing, and he has kept his criticism of pricing pressure plain. “It's OK for the big producers but it's impossible for the smaller wineries to compete at such low prices.”
