    Portrait of Magali Decoster

    i. Biography

Magali Decoster stepped into Bordeaux’s most closely watched ground with a measured hand, becoming winemaker at Château de Candale in Saint-Émilion in 2024. The work with the estate had already been underway for years: since 2017, she has been owner and operator at the Saint-Laurent-des-Combes estate in Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, carrying the property through a period that reads as both continuity and adjustment. Her own reading of the region is direct: "Saint-Emilion is famous for its great wines and outstanding terroirs." It is the language of someone working inside the conditions that make the wines.

    Coming Up

Today, Magali is owner / operator of Château de Candale (since 2017). That position sits at the point where site, schedule, and decision-making meet, with daily responsibility spread across the estate’s work rather than confined to a single task. In Saint-Émilion, where place and reputation are tightly linked, her role reflects both continuity on the ground and a contemporary approach to running a property.

    Where They Are Now

Since 2017, she has remained owner and operator at the estate, a long enough span to shape Château de Candale from within rather than from a distance. In 2024, she added the winemaker role, bringing production under the same direction as ownership and management. The sequence is straightforward: guide the estate, hold responsibility for it, and then take on the making as well. Magali has said, "Great wines are at the heart of consumers' most personal moments, with family, friends or as a couple." The point is less about theory than about where wine lands once it leaves the cellar: at the table, in company, and in the ordinary rituals that give the work its audience. That outlook is carried into Le Goût de la Vie, her new cuvée in red, rosé and white. Described as "the flagship of our new promise: modern and elegant codes, a fruity and daring taste and the guarantee of an organic agriculture from 2024," it marks a defined shift in style and intent. The cuvée frames the estate’s direction in terms that are current, but still tied to the expectations of Bordeaux.

In Their Words “Le Goût de la Vie, our new cuvée in red, rosé and white is the flagship of our new promise: modern and elegant codes, a fruity and daring taste and the guarantee of an organic agriculture from 2024.” “There is no questioning about the Grands Crus and Grands Crus Classés, wines of excellence and references for historical consumers.”
