Since 2005, ownership and winemaking at Weingut Fritz Haag in Brauneberg, Germany, have sat with Oliver Haag, a role that binds the estate’s standards to one set of daily decisions. Haag describes winegrowing as “A science unlike any other, and one that continues to fascinate and amaze me,” and the line fits the discipline of the job: observation, patience, and repetition, made usable through practice. Training at Geisenheim College and Karthäuserhof formed the base for that work before Haag took on the estate. Since 2005, he and his wife Jessica have run Weingut Fritz Haag in the Mosel, where vineyard sensitivity and cellar precision have to stay aligned. The title is compact; the task is not. Each vintage calls for judgment, restraint, and attention to what the fruit can give.
