The Climb
Since 1999, Ramón Bilbao in Haro has been shaped by Rodolfo Bastida through a long run of cellar and vineyard work that has favored continuity over noise. As Chief Winemaker, the task has been to keep the house moving forward while holding the grape in view: modern in style, but still readable as itself. The result is a method built on discipline, patience, and the control to stop short of excess.
Today
At the Haro winery, Rodolfo Bastida holds both Chief Winemaker and Winery Director, a combination that keeps production and direction in the same set of hands. The work is practical and exacting, with balance treated as a working standard rather than an abstract ideal. As he puts it, the aim is to keep moving toward the best possible wine while staying inside the oenological philosophy that guides the house. That is a plain brief, and a telling one: refine by repetition, judge by restraint, and let the finished wine carry its place without forcing the issue.
Signature
Rodolfo's signature wines include Lalomba, Verdejo Sobre Lías 2022, Finca Las Amedias 2020, Límite Norte 2021, and Lalomba Finca Lalinde 2024 rosé. Read together, they show a winemaker working across expressions and vintages with the same practical aim: modern wines, precise handling, and enough room for each bottling to speak in its own register. The strength of the list is not range for its own sake, but continuity of method across different names and formats.
In Their Words “We try to always find a way to make the best possible wine, applying our oenological philosophy, that "spin" I mentioned earlier.” “We make the wines in a modern style where our focus is on allowing the grapes to speak for themselves.”
