i. Biography
Since 2005, Rudy Marchesi has held the dual charge of owner and winemaker at Montinore Estate in Forest Grove, Oregon. That pairing matters: ownership sets the long view, winemaking sets the daily standard. Across vineyard, cellar, and boardroom, the work has stayed tied to place, with Marchesi grounding it in a simple line: “This area has been our home for a long time.”
The Climb
Training at Sonoma State and the Institute of Masters of Wine, London gave the career both practical footing and formal discipline before the work moved into the field. Marchesi started at a small vineyard in Nevada County, California, where scale was limited and attention was not. In 1978, he became founder at Alba Vineyard in the Delaware Valley region, New Jersey, taking on the responsibilities that come with building a vineyard from the ground up. Later, he brought that same breadth of perspective to Allied Beverage Group as Vice President of Brand Development. Those years across vineyard work, founding, and Brand Development converge at Montinore Estate. Since 2005, Rudy Marchesi has been owner and winemaker there, holding stewardship and production together rather than treating them as separate jobs.
Today
Since 2005, Marchesi has also been proprietor of the Forest Grove estate, a role that asks for steadiness as much as range. Ownership and winemaking sit side by side here: one looks after the long horizon, the other manages the choices of each vintage. That combination gives the work its shape, and it is why Montinore Estate reads less like a posting than a place where a career has been laid into the ground over time.
Signature
The signature wines point to a style built on range and control. Pinot Gris 2019, Almost Dry Riesling 2020, Reserve Pinot Noir 2017, Vivacé, and L'Orange 2019 show a portfolio that moves between freshness, structure, and expression without losing its center. The names themselves mark the territory: each bottle carries a distinct register, and together they reflect a winemaking approach shaped by experience rather than excess.
In Their Words “This area has been our home for a long time.” The line is plain, and that is its strength. It speaks to continuity in a working wine region, to a long connection with place, and to the kind of familiarity that only comes from repeated seasons, not sentiment.
Recognition
The study at Sonoma State and the Institute of Masters of Wine, London marks the formal side of the record. Paired with work across vineyard, founding, and Brand Development, it shows a career built from both technical preparation and sustained industry practice.
