The Path
Wine work often starts with one narrow lane; Steve Glossner’s came in stages. Cornell University and CSU, Fresno gave him the formal base, but the practical education began in a retail sales position at a fine wine shop in Western New York, where the daily pace of the trade and the language around wine became part of the job. From there, he moved into harvest, cellar and tasting room positions at various wineries in Sonoma County, then into harvest season work at wineries in New Zealand. Each stop added a different part of the trade: the crush, cellar discipline, and the direct feedback that comes from pouring wine for guests. Winemaking followed that progression. Steve Glossner served as winemaker at Justin Vineyards and Winery in Paso Robles (1994–1999), then as winemaker at Adelaida Cellars in Paso Robles (1999–2002), and then as director of winemaking at Halter Ranch in Paso Robles (2002). The sequence shows a move from hands-on production into broader cellar leadership, all within Paso Robles. Today, he is consulting winemaker of Guyomar Wine Cellars, winemaker of Steinbeck Vineyards & Winery, and owner / winemaker / distiller of PasoPort Wine Company, Per Caso Cellars, and Pendray's Distillery.
