i. Biography
The Climb
Formal business training gave Theo Engela a framework for the commercial side of the trade, and he put it to work in wine from 2012 onward. At Chaffey Bros. Wine Co. in Tanunda, the co-owner and winemaker role became the anchor point; everything else followed as an extension of that base. The same pattern shows up in the later additions to his portfolio: each title adds another outlet for the same discipline, with hospitality, retail, and production kept in balance rather than treated as separate tracks. By 2018, that approach had broadened into coffee through Hark Coffee Roasters, then into Barossa trade networks with Artisans of Barossa in 2020 and Vino Lokal from 2020–2022. In 2022, the list widened again with Taco Libre, Mollymawk, and Hark Chocolate. Taken together, those roles show a maker working across categories that reward consistency, timing, and an eye for what people return to.

The result is a portfolio built around daily-use craft: wine, coffee, dining, and chocolate, all tied to places that depend on regular trade and repeat attention.
