The Path
Training at California gave Thomas Carsin a first pass at the discipline that would later define his work: learn the ground, then learn the place. From there, the route moved through Champagne and Provence, two regions that asked for different registers of attention. In Champagne, Carsin worked as a consultant, a role that depends on technical fluency and on reading what the site is already saying. In Provence, he worked in winemaking to gain experience, adding another layer of practical exposure before settling into a longer-held estate role. Since 2008, Thomas Carsin has been winemaker at Domaine du Clos de l'Élu. The length of that tenure is the point: the work has been continuous, and continuity changes what a winemaker can know. Staying with one estate over time builds a deeper command of its seasonal pattern, its house style, and its day-to-day demands. Carsin's profile is built on that kind of repetition—training, consulting, and hands-on production absorbed into one sustained practice.
The Work Today
At Domaine du Clos de l'Élu, Thomas Carsin's work has remained continuous since 2008, and that sustained presence is central to how the role reads. Winemaking at one estate over many seasons is not about novelty; it is about accumulation. The daily decisions, the yearly returns, and the long familiarity with the place all matter. Carsin's position is defined by that consistency, with the estate as the fixed reference point for his practice.
