His own way of putting it is plain: “I want to touch people with our sparkling wines!” Before Sekthaus Raumland became tied to his name, the craft was shaped by formal study and industry training. Volker Raumland trained at Fachhochschule Geisenheim, then began his professional path as an apprentice industrial clerk at Siemens in Mannheim. The combination points to a career built on order, patience, and exactness, qualities that carry through into the cellar where standards are a working habit rather than a posture. Since 1984, Volker Raumland has held the roles of founder, owner, cellarmaster, and leader at Sekthaus Raumland. Those positions describe the structure of the house as much as his own remit, and they have given the estate a clear focus on sparkling wine as its central craft.

The Work Today

At Sekthaus Raumland, Volker Raumland continues as winemaker and cellar master, shaping the house from vineyard intake through cellar work. His specialty is High-quality German Sekt, and his philosophy is to work from the range of grape varieties, the traditional methods, and the possibilities available today. As he puts it, “My philosophy is to achieve the optimum from the diversity of our grape varieties, the traditional methods, and the possibilities available today.” The handling of fruit starts before the wine reaches the cellar floor. “We pick everything by hand into small plastic crates of 15 kilos each.”
