Where They Are Now

Looking ahead, Werner Muller has said: “While I have no specifics to share at this point, the idea is to start my own little project. Something small and hands-on, producing a wine or two I really believe in.” The scale matters here. A small, hands-on project points to the kind of work where decisions stay close to the material and every bottle carries a direct line back to the maker. After years in a landscape that asks for patience, the intention is continuity rather than reinvention: the same care, reduced to a tighter, more personal format.

Iona Sauvignon Blanc 2016 sits among Werner Muller’s signature wines, and it is where the shape of his approach is easiest to read. The wine reflects the precision and restraint associated with his time at Iona, and it offers a clear point of reference for the style he helped build there.

In Their Words “When I started, we had 16 barrels of Chardonnay and three barrels of Pinot Noir. Today, we’re producing around 20 000 bottles of Chardonnay, and that journey has been built on patience and teamwork.” The numbers show the scale of the work, but the method is the more useful lesson: growth assembled slowly, through repetition, trust, and shared effort. What began in a small cellar footprint became a larger expression of place, yet the operating principles stayed the same. Patience and teamwork sit underneath the finished wines.
