His path began at Castello della Sala and broadened in the mid-1990s into responsibility across the group. Between Antinori and Cotarella, the work here sits in a particular tension: a house with 600 years behind it, using a building opened in 2012 to hold the discipline of Chianti Classico DOCG.

A cellar cut for movement

The winery does not ask pumps to do the first work. Marco Casamonti designed Antinori nel Chianti Classico into the Tuscan hillside as a gravity-flow cellar, using the fall of the site to move fruit and wine through the process with less force. That architectural decision matters at bench-side level. It shapes how Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, and Mammolo pass through the program, and it keeps the method tied to the landform rather than imposed above it. The production philosophy is conventional, the scale is large, and the governing language remains Chianti Classico DOCG. The house is also bound to names that travel beyond the hillside. Tignanello, Solaia, and Col Solare sit within the Antinori portfolio as signatures of public identity, while this place gives that larger house a physical argument: continuity can be engineered without becoming cold.

Silence below the vines

The cellar feels held in rather than placed on the slope. Outside, terraces and Sangiovese vineyards set the line of sight; inside, natural elements keep the rooms quiet and condition the work without theatrical display. The place has often been described as a kind of temple to ancient winemaking rituals, but the better word is disciplined. Silence here is useful. It lets the cellar, the tasting room, and the hillside read as parts of one method. The room does not compete with the wine program. It gives the hands enough calm to work at the pace the house has chosen.

The public measure

Antinori nel Chianti Classico was named World’s Best Vineyard in 2022, and the venue carries a rank of 1 on the World’s 50 Best Vineyards list. Awards are not the method, but they do show how clearly the building has entered the wine conversation.
