Kopar stays Kopar in Attila Gere’s cellar. Attila Gere, winemaker at Gere Attila Winery in Villány, keeps that sentence close to the work, not as a slogan but as a limit on unnecessary change. His own wording is plainer still: “The great wines of the Gere winery remain unchanged. Kopar is Kopar, it is not affected by changing trends.” At this Villány estate, continuity is not treated as a museum position. It is a cellar discipline, a way of deciding what may move and what must hold. Gere’s known frame is inheritance, especially around Fekete Járdovány, a grape from past centuries that he brought back into view without making it a novelty act. The estate works organically across a medium scale of 70 to 75 hectares, with red wine at the center of the program. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Portugieser, Kékfrankos, Tempranillo and Fekete Járdovány all sit within the house’s stated range. The lineage published here is not one of named masters and apprentices. It is the steadier lineage of a maker choosing what to carry forward.

Technology follows, the wines do not

Gere’s second sentence sets the cellar’s working boundary: “We follow trends only in technology.” That distinction matters in a place built around recognizable wines rather than seasonal reinvention. The machinery may change. The underlying shape of Kopar, Solus, Attila, Athus Cuvée and Attila Cuvée is meant to remain legible from vintage to vintage. Kopar sits at the center of that logic as the flagship cuvée, while Fekete Járdovány gives the estate a different kind of signature, less about scale than recovery. The method, as far as the house makes it visible, is selective preservation: keep the identity of the vineyard material and the wines intact, update the tools that help the cellar do its work. On steep limestone slopes in Villány, that choice has a practical edge. The estate’s organic farming, the 70 hectare setting described for the property, and the emphasis on still red wines all point toward a program where fruit, blend and name have to carry memory together.

Limestone slopes and a quiet cellar

The room here is not the restaurant’s room, but the cellar and tasting room, with the vineyards pressing close outside. Gere Attila Winery sits among Villány’s hills, where the estate is described through steep limestone slopes and a quiet, scenic setting. The architecture brings modern winery lines into contact with older cellar atmosphere, so the work does not feel sealed away from hospitality. Guided and premium tastings happen in that register: warm, measured, cellar-led. The pace suits wines made to be recognized rather than chased. In the tasting room, the names do much of the speaking, Kopar first among them, then the other cuvées that extend the same discipline. The place’s luxury is not volume. It is the patience required to keep Fekete Járdovány in circulation and still let Kopar remain Kopar.
