The domaine's foundation belongs to the Burgundian mechanics of family landholding: marriage, village parcels, inheritance and cellar continuity. In 1924, Christophe Roumier's grandfather Georges Roumier married a Chambolle-Musigny woman, and vineyards came as a dowry. From that transfer, Domaine Georges Roumier took shape in Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy, France, with its identity tied to the village and to the accumulated reading of its soils.
The Trajectory
Technical formation and practical cellar work both shaped the hand now associated with the domaine. Christophe Roumier trained at Dijon University's Faculty of Oenology, then worked a stage at Cairanne co-operative in Côtes du Rhône until 1981. The sequence matters: formal oenology first, then cooperative-scale work outside the Côte de Nuits, before returning to the family domaine. Succession in Burgundy is a working arrangement before it is a title.
