i. Biography
Hector Garate is the owner and pitmaster behind Palmira Barbecue in Charleston. His cooking combines wood-fired technique and whole-animal cookery with the Puerto Rican flavors of his family roots. He was named a James Beard Foundation Emerging Chef semifinalist in February 2026.
