José Avillez

José Avillez is a Portuguese chef and restaurateur born in Lisbon, who graduated in Business Communication with a thesis on Portuguese gastronomy before starting his career at Fortaleza do Guincho in Cascais. He earned his first Michelin star as executive chef at Tavares in Lisbon, then opened Belcanto in 2012, which received two Michelin stars in 2014 and was ranked among the World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2019. He owns over a dozen restaurants primarily in Lisbon and Porto, including Tasca by José Avillez in Dubai at Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Beach.
