Iron Chef Jose Garces was formed at Kendall College, where he studied Culinary Arts. Born in Chicago to Ecuadorian parents, he carried Spanish technique and Latin American roots into a career built around Spanish and Latin American cuisine, with bold, modern dishes as the throughline.

A Philadelphia run at Alma de Cuba gave Jose Garces a defining platform, with his work there as Executive Chef beginning in 2001. The national circuit followed: challenger at Iron Chef America from 2008, competitor at The Next Iron Chef from 2009, and competitor at Tournament of Champions Season 4 from 2023. That stretch placed Garces in formats that measure speed, control, and range under pressure.
