The Path
Since 1979, the craft at Arunda has been carried by Josef “Sepp” Reiterer as founder, proprietor, and winemaker. That kind of continuity matters in sparkling wine: the work depends on repetition, timing, and the discipline to let each stage settle before the next begins. Reiterer has shaped Arunda through that pace, with the consistency of someone who treats bottle by bottle and season by season as the unit of the job.
The Work Today
He also works there as winemaker. Selection is the first technical decision in Reiterer’s method. As he puts it: “I select and buy the Chardonnay, Pinot bianco and Pinot nero grapes from trusted growers in different areas of South Tyrol.” The sourcing is specific, not theatrical: known grapes, known places, trusted growers. That kind of sourcing sets the frame for the rest of the cellar work. Sparkling wine, for Reiterer, is also a matter of outlook. “For me, sparkling wine with its bubbles is an expression of creativity and a positive life.” That position points to a style of work that values lift and energy without losing control. He describes the process in terms of development and completion: “The fascination lies in letting the base wines, separately or united as a cuvée, rise to their peak form.”
Signature
Josef's signature wines include Spumante Riserva 2013 Extra Brut - Metodo Classico. The name signals the kind of work behind it: extended attention, measured structure, and a method that depends on patience as much as intent. It reads as a wine built for precision, with enough frame to carry its own energy.
