i. Biography
Kurt Feiler became owner of Weingut Feiler-Artinger in Rust, Austria, in 2013, taking on a family estate whose standards were already set by prior generations. As the third generation to run the winery, he works inside a chain of continuity that runs from vine rows to cellar decisions, with the house style shaped by what the estate has carried forward and what it chooses next. “2002 in our region looks to be one of the top vintages.” Kurt has said.
The Path
Training at Weinbauschule in Klosterneuburg gave Kurt Feiler a formal base before he returned to the family business in Rust. That schooling mattered not as a break from inheritance, but as a way to sharpen it: viticultural study paired with the practical discipline required to read soils, weather, and fruit in Austrian winegrowing.
The Work Today
Since 2013, he has owned the Rust winery, and the work now moves between vineyard and cellar, where decisions made early shape the finished wines long before bottling. At Feiler-Artinger Winery, Kurt Feiler guides vineyard choices and directs cellar work with the attention needed to carry grapes from site to bottle without losing clarity or intent.
Signature
Kurt's signature wines include Solitaire, O.S. Olé Bio Welschriesling 2020, Cabernet Franc 2019, Ruster Ausbruch Gelber Muskateller 2020, and Ried Ruster Oberer Wald Blaufränkisch 2020. Together, they show the range of the house: the brisk, textural lift of O.S. Olé Bio Welschriesling 2020, the depth and structure of Cabernet Franc 2019, the layered sweetness and aromatic brightness of Ruster Ausbruch Gelber Muskateller 2020, and the site-specific resonance of Ried Ruster Oberer Wald Blaufränkisch 2020. Solitaire sits within that same language, tied to Feiler-Artinger’s identity and to the translation of vineyard character into bottle.
Acclaim
The defining marker of Feiler’s career is succession within a family house: Kurt Feiler leads the same Rust address as its third-generation operator. In a trade where inheritance can be both standard and pressure, that continuity is its own form of recognition, reflecting the trust required to carry the winery forward while keeping faith with the rhythms and standards that shaped it.
