i. Biography
María Vargas (Haro, 1971) is the Technical Director of Marqués de Murrieta in Rioja and Pazo de Barrantes in Rías Baixas. She joined Marqués de Murrieta in 1996 and rose through the winery to technical leadership, where she has helped steer the estates’ modern success and award-winning wines. She has also been publicly recognized as a leading Spanish oenologist, including being named “Riojana Ilustre” and receiving international “best oenologist” honors.
