i. Biography
The work traces from University of British Columbia and Lincoln University into Washington wineries, where Peter Devison built range by moving through successive winemaking posts. The pattern is not a sprint to a title; it is a sequence of roles that added technical control, site awareness, and pressure-tested decision-making.
The Climb
Peter Devison trained at University of British Columbia and Lincoln University before stepping into a series of winemaking roles that steadily widened his influence in Washington. He began as winemaker at Vin du Lac in Washington (from 2004), then moved on to serve as winemaker at Chalone Cellars in Chelan, Washington (2005–2006), and as winemaker at Waterbrook in Washington (from 2007), later becoming Apex Winemaker at Precept. Each step marked another layer of experience, another opportunity to refine a style that would become increasingly his own. His career continued with a move to winemaker at EFESTE Winery in Woodinville, Washington (from 2012), followed by Head Winemaker at Cadaretta. Today, Peter is founder and winemaker of Devison Vintners (since 2020), where the through-line of his work feels especially clear: a disciplined technical base, a restless curiosity, and a willingness to let site and vintage speak with conviction.
Today
At Devison Vintners, the method is small-lot and native-fermented, with the aim of wines that carry complexity, depth, and character while showing the typicity of Washington’s best vineyard sites. The work leans toward nuance over flash, texture over blunt force, and a sense of place that comes forward in stages rather than all at once. The finished wines read as composed but not rigid, each one holding its own shape, energy, and precision.
Signature
Peter's signature wines include 2019 Sauvignon Blanc, Beneath the Stones, Above the Flood, GPR, and East of the Sun Rosé 2019. Read together, they map the range of the program: white wine with brightness and tension, red blends with structure and warmth, and a rosé that carries the same attention to detail in a lighter frame.
In Their Words “I've got a theory that clean wines are boring.”
Recognition
The Bachelor’s Degree in Oenology and Viticulture sits behind the career arc, and the wines give that training its clearest form. The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc was noted for electric acidity, texture, layering, purity, depth, and length, a combination that shows energy held in check by control, with each element supporting the next. The 2018 GPR, or Glass Pour Rhône, is a trademarked GSM described as bright, light, and approachable, bringing a more open, immediate expression to the lineup. Beneath the Stones, also from 2018, is described as showing The Rocks District funk with a silky satin structure, a phrase that captures the wine’s interplay of edge and polish. Above the Flood, another 2018 wine, is described as a wonderful GSM, and East of the Sun Rosé followed in 2019, rounding out a sequence that shows Peter’s range without losing the continuity of his voice.
