i. Biography
Coming Up
The Coca i Fitó family name carries a farming line in Alt Penedès, and Toni Coca’s work grows out of that base. The governing idea is plain: wine belongs to life, not apart from it. That shows up in the way his practice treats land, season, and routine labor as the frame for the cellar, with patience and continuity doing as much work as technique. Training at School of Oenology in Falset set the course for a career that spans multiple regions and roles. As Technical Director and winemaker at Celler Mas Pujó in Penedès (1992–2004), Toni Coca built an early practice around technical rigor and daily production. He held the same dual role at Cellers Capafons Ossó in Montsant and Priorat (1993–2006), then at Viticultors Mas d’en Gil in Priorat (1998–2004), where the demands of the territory added another layer to that work. Breadth is a feature of the record. Toni worked as Technical Advisor and winemaker at Donimi de la Cartoixa in Priorat (2002–2009), Natur Montsant (2002–2009), Celler Prior Pons in Priorat (2002–2009), and Cellers Sant Rafel in Montsant (2002–2009). That mix of cellars and sites points to a career shaped by repeated engagement with Priorat and Montsant, where each project required attention to its own conditions rather than a fixed formula. The mid-2000s broadened the scope further into related categories within the same agricultural world. He was also Associate Professor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (2006–2009), moving the same practical knowledge into teaching. That advisory work continued at Viticultors Mas d’en Gil in Bellmunt del Priorat (Priorat) (2005–2009), where he served as Technical Advisor and Project Manager for winegar, and at Vins Piñol winery in Batea (Terra Alta) (2008–2009), where he worked as Technical Advisor. The throughline is consistency across different settings: entering varied projects while keeping the same disciplined approach to grape, place, and purpose. Today, Toni is Technical Director of Coca i Fitó winery, with the family name and the farming background still central to the role.
