i. Biography
Yiannis Tselepos is the owner-producer of Ktima Tselepos in Mantinia, Greece, and his name is closely associated with disciplined work on Moschofilero. The path runs from oenology training in France to long estate stewardship in Arcadia, with each step adding structure to a style built through repetition, place, and close attention to a single variety.
The Path
Yiannis Tselepos trained at University of Dijon, France, where he built the technical base for later work in Greece. From 1980–1989, he worked as wine consultant at Arcadia, Greece, a period that placed him between formal study and local conditions. Since 1989, he has been owner – producer of Ktima Tselepos, and that long tenure has defined the estate through continuity rather than novelty.
The Work Today
At Ktima Tselepos, Moschofilero remains the central grape in Yiannis Tselepos’s work. In his own framing, the variety was brought back through mono-varietal vinification so its distinct character could come through without distraction: “This is the variety that I rescued from oblivion, by vinifying it in a mono-varietal way that highlights all its unique characteristics.” The line is direct, and it describes a method built around clarity, not ornament.
Signature
Yiannis's signature wines include Mantinia and Amalia Brut. These wines are the clearest markers of his estate work, with each one carrying the same emphasis on place and definition that shapes the wider range.
In Their Words “My relationship with the vine and the wine is vital and fulfilling and thus I believe it has made me a wiser and better person as a whole.” “This is the variety that I rescued from oblivion, by vinifying it in a mono-varietal way that highlights all its unique characteristics.”
Acclaim
The Mantinia bottling is defined by exceptional freshness, high acidity, and delicate flavors of great intensity: citrus fruit, lemon, and rose. It reads as a wine made for precision, with brightness and aromatic lift carrying the structure. Amalia Brut, by contrast, is a sparkling wine of light lemon-green color with delicate bubbles and aromas of citrus flowers, honey, brioche, and rose, accompanied by crispy acidity. Together, the two wines show a style that favors brightness, texture, and exact aromatic detail. His own description keeps the emphasis on the work itself: “My relationship with the vine and the wine is vital and fulfilling and thus I believe it has made me a wiser and better person as a whole.”
