Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, Louis Roederer’s cellar master, describes each numbered Collection as a distinct chapter. The house began its perpetual reserve in 2012; it now combines part of that reserve with a new harvest and other older wines. Estate fruit is supplemented by grapes from selected partner growers.
Two harvests, two blends
Collection 246 centres on the 2021 harvest, while 247 centres on 2022. Both use Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, but their shares of base wine and reserves differ. The 247 technical record lists 68 percent 2022 wine, 27 percent perpetual reserve and 5 percent oak-aged reserve wine. Lécaillon’s work links those components without making each release a repeat of the last.
Cristal Rosé
For Cristal Rosé, the house selects fruit from four grand cru plots in Aÿ, Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. It describes a method that joins Chardonnay juice to macerating Pinot Noir before fermentation. The vineyard selection and method set this vintage rosé apart from Collection’s multi-vintage blend.
