i. Biography
Anne-Laure Hernette has been winemaker at Domaine de la Bressande in Mercurey, Burgundy, France, since 2016. The work there sits on two disciplines that define the trade: precision in the cellar and patience in the vineyard. It is the practice of taking fruit through its practical stages without forcing it, and of reading place through the finished wine.
The Path
Training at CFPPA de Beaune gave Anne-Laure Hernette an entry point into the technical side of wine, before she moved into the daily rhythm of vineyard and cellar work at family estate in Givry. That early stage established the fieldcraft behind the role: seasonal labour, close observation, and the discipline of working by the vine’s schedule rather than against it. Her experience then widened across France, Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina, with work in vinification and sales in the first two and with malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and merlot in the latter. The combination matters in trade terms: cellar decisions and market-facing language are different parts of the same wine business, and her background has included both. Later, she returned to France to work with reds at Cave de Tain L’Hermitage in Crozes-Hermitage, then moved on to Lubéron, where new grape varieties and blends added another layer to her cellar practice. Today, Anne-Laure is winemaker of Domaine de la Bressande.
The Work Today
Since 2016, she has held the winemaker role at Domaine de la Bressande in Mercurey, Burgundy, France. In Mercurey, that present-tense work is fed by experience from Givry, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Crozes-Hermitage, and Lubéron.
