The Climb
Ehren Jordan’s cellar training sits at the intersection of formal study and fieldwork. Vintage pressure and the daily grind of harvest shaped that period, and his own account of 1993 makes the point plainly: “It rained every day during harvest [in 1993], and seeing what people did to make wine -- and make some good wine -- was incredibly instructive.” The next steps moved him through California cellars where judgment, pace, and consistency matter as much as style. In 1995, he joined Helen Turley at Marcassin in California, then went on to Turley Wine Cellars in Napa Valley, California, where he served as winemaker and general manager until 2013. Those years point to a career built on repetition, responsibility, and long service rather than quick turnover. Since 1998, Ehren has also been owner and winemaker of Failla, a role that connects independence with continuity. By then, his work already reflected years spent in academic preparation, French harvest conditions, and extended runs in California wineries. The line through his career is steady accumulation: cellar work, vineyard decisions, management, and a personal hand in the wines.
