Jon Yao is the chef-owner of Kato in Los Angeles, a Taiwanese American tasting-menu restaurant that opened in West Los Angeles in 2016 and later relocated to Row DTLA in the Arts District. He grew up in Walnut, California, and is identified in major coverage as the chef behind Kato’s Taiwanese-influenced cuisine. Yao won the Michelin Guide California Young Chef Award in 2021 and the James Beard Award for Best Chef: California in 2025.
