Training at University of California, Davis gave Wong a formal base for that approach. Peter Michael Winery (1996–2000) followed, first as assistant winemaker and then winemaker, a sequence that moved her from supporting the process to directing it. Winemaker roles at Château Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac and Domaine Jean Gros in Vosne-Romanée widened the frame further. Those are places where precision and inheritance are part of the job description, and Wong’s path through them reads as accumulation rather than display: school, service, cellar, and then work across estates that place a premium on discipline. Today, Vanessa Wong is still the winemaker of Peay Vineyards (since 2001), and the length of that association is part of the story of the wines as much as the person.
